great reasons why we should switch to cruelty-free

According to Cruelty-Free International, over 115 million animals are being used for animal testing worldwide each year.

Some brands have decided to start testing products on animals only to enter the Chinese market. Despite this, many brands maintained their cruelty-free status and deliberately excluded themselves from these markets. There is no reason to test on animals because there are better alternatives available that do not involve the torture of living creatures.

The choice to switch to cruelty-free products is the only way to say no to animal testing. For this reason, we should all be committed to supporting companies that produce cruelty-free products.

The cruelty of animal testing

The animals used in experiments are not only confined to small cages and inhumane conditions, but they’re also tortured, maimed, blinded, and killed at the end. They’re essentially bred to live a life of fear and suffering.

Under the law, laboratory animals are a particular category that is not protected from abuse and cruelty to tests. This view is absolutely immoral and meaningless and we must protect all animals from abuse: laboratory bunnies, mice, dogs, cats and other animals used for testing must have the same rights.

Alternative to animal testing

Replacing animal testing does not mean putting at risk human patients and the development of medicine. The reasons why animal testing is still practiced are often not scientific but due to conservatism within the scientific institute. Over time, alternative methods to animal testing have been used, but the latter is more convenient because of its low cost.

Some alternative methods already used by several companies are in vitro tests, which are tests on human tissues donated by volunteers and tests on computer-created models that replicate the human body.

There are already lots of safe ingredients

There are over 7,000 ingredients that are proven to be safe and toxin-free that companies can use to formulate their products. This only proves that there is no need to test other ingredients on animals. But most companies prefer to use potentially unsafe chemicals and ingredients often to increase their profits.

Cruelty-free is more eco-friendly

Many cruelty-free brands offer organic products, free from potentially toxic chemicals. You can find cruelty-free brands that do everything from all-purpose detergents to laundry detergents that are better for the environment compared to traditional brands. Plant-based ingredients in body products, for example, have proven safe and are easier to absorb into the skin. Furthermore, animal testing laboratories produce large quantities of waste that can be harmful and dangerous for the environment. So, by switching to cruelty-free products, you would be saving your skin and the environment.

There are many cruelty-free brands

There are thousands of cruelty-free brands, even the big brands have converted; buying cruelty-free is now available to everyone; moreover, cruelty-free products range from the most expensive and refined products to more budget-friendly ones.

Animal Testing Is Illegal In Some Countries

The European Union, Israel, India, Norway, Switzerland, South Korea, and New Zealand have all banned animal testing. All these countries recognized how animal testing is unethical and dangerous. It is key to underline that the brands that sell, for example, in the European Union are obliged not to practice animal testing in that country, however, they are not prevented from doing so in other countries. So while many brands remain cruelty-free, others have decided to start testing on animals by entering the Chinese market, where animal testing is required by law.

You can make the difference

Whenever non-cruelty-free products are purchased, a message is sent to the market: a message that there is no real interest in animal rights. Cruelty-free products can be concretely supported by purchasing only from certified Leaping Bunny companies. It may not seem like it, but buying only cruelty-free products and inviting others to do the same can make a difference in the lives of thousands of laboratory animals.
